INTRODUCTION TO CAD

Learn how to use Computer Aided Drafting/Design software (AutoCAD) to create 2D engineering drawings. There will be also be “design and build” engineering competitions such as bridge building and pop bottle rockets. |

ADVANCED CAD

Instructor’s Approval
Learn how to create three-dimensional engineering designs using the 3D-CAD program Inventor. Your designs can be viewed from any angle and you can apply a variety of materials, from chrome to plastic, to your designs. Time will be devoted to a major free choice project. Students will also research an engineering career and prepare a power point on it. |

ARCHITECTURE
(9-12) .5 credit 1 semester None
FVCC college credit available to 11 & 12 grades.
After learning how to identify different architectural styles and what makes a good floor plan, students will design and draw a set of architectural house plans using the software Chief Architect. This includes a floor plan, the four outside elevation views and a plot plan with landscaping. You will also create 3D interior and exterior views. |

DIGITAL GRAPHIC DESIGN & WEB PAGE DESIGN

FVCC College credit available for junior and seniors.
Learn how to use the computer to design effective and visually attractive graphical documents. Students will use the scanner and digital camera plus use photo manipulation software (Photoshop) to create their graphics. You will also learn how to create effective web pages, including Flash animations, and publish your graphic designs on the Internet. |

DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTION
(9-12) 1 credit 1 semester NONE
Learn how to create videos using the camcorder in conjunction with the computer. All editing will be done digitally on the computer using the software Premier. The skills you learn in this course, including how to use the camcorder, script writing, camera angles and shots, and digital editing techniques, will help you create professional quality videos. |

INDIVIDUAL PROBLEMS IN COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
(11-12) 1 credit 1 year Minimum of 4 semesters of any communication listed above and instructor approva.
This class is set up as an independent study class in which students design their own curriculum with help from the teacher. Students can concentrate in most any of the technologies that they have been previously exposed to in the communication technology curriculum. It is necessary to understand that students MUST be self-motivated and have a very high interest in this subject area. |

PHOTOGRAPHY
(9-12) .5 credit 1 semester Non
Learn the basic fundamentals of the art and technique of black and white photography with an emphasis in the techniques of picture taking, film developing, and darkroom printing. Students will develop an aesthetic appreciation of photography through the introduction of principles of design and composition, which help students express their own creativity. It is highly recommended that students have access to a fully manual 35mm SLR camera of their own. If students do not have their own cameras they can use the limited number loaner cameras available through the class. Students will also explore making 3D pictures called holograms. Students must be willing and able to take pictures on their own time (after school & on weekends). |
